    Alabama jail inmate dead after found unresponsive

    MARSHALL COUNTY, Ala. ( WHNT ) — The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office stated the State Bureau of Investigations is investigating after an inmate died in custody Sunday night.

    Inmate Patrick Murdock, 56, of Guntersville died Sunday night after being found unresponsive in his cell, the sheriff’s office stated.

    According to the sheriff’s office, Murdock was found unresponsive in his cell late Sunday night. Authorities mentioned corrections officers immediately started CPR and called for emergency medical responders.

    The MCSO sated Murdock was transported to Marshall Medical North, where he was pronounced dead.

    The sheriff’s office noted the preliminary investigation shows that Murdock died of natural causes. The SBI and Marshall County coroner responded to conduct an investigation into the death at the request of Marshall County Sheriff Phil Sims.

    “It is our policy to ask for SBI to investigate any in-custody deaths that may occur in the jail,” Sims said in statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time.”
