    Dia de Los Muertos exhibit on display at Birmingham Civil Rights Institute

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Bare Hands, a local arts nonprofit, will bring exhibits from its annual Dia de Los Muertos Festival to galleries at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute beginning Wednesday.

    The exhibit, a special selection of Bare Hands’ massive art installations, costumes, and homemade ofrendas, will be on display at the Odessa Woolfolk Gallery through Oct. 15 in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month.

    Additionally, the exhibition at Birmingham Civil Rights Institute will include tributes to George Floyd, Elijah McClain, and others. General admission to the BCRI is $15 for adults and free for children below the fourth grade.

    Rooted in Mesoamerican traditions, Dia de los Muertos is a day of remembering departed loved ones and celebrating life. Bare Hands, Inc,’s 22nd annual Dia de los Muertos festival will be held on November 2 from 3-11 p.m. Tickets for the event are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate. Admission for children under 12 is free.
