Fort Novosel soldier accused of raping young teenager

FORT NOVOSEL, Ala. ( WDHN ) — A soldier from Fort Novosel was arrested over the weekend and charged with sex crimes after a joint investigation between local and U.S. Army police.

According to Enterprise police, 36-year-old warrant officer Juan Salvador Guillen Mondragon was arrested Friday and charged with facilitating the travel of a child for an unlawful sex act and second-degree rape.

Enterprise Police Cpt. Billy Haglund said an investigation into allegations against Mondragon was launched Aug. 27 in conjunction with the Fort Novosel Army Criminal Investigation Division.

Because of the alleged crime’s nature, information is limited in the case, but Haglund said the victim was a 13-year-old.

A Fort Novosel spokesperson confirmed Mondragon is a flight school student from the California National Guard and assigned to B Company, 1-145th Aviation Regiment on the post.

Jail records show Mondragon bonded out of the Coffee County Jail on Monday.
