LEEDS, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A student at Leeds High School was taken into custody Thursday following a social media post.

Gov. Kay Ivey calls for resignation of head of Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs

Chief Paul Irwin says the student, who has not been named, was taken into custody and will not be returning to the school system. Irwin says there is no threat to students and extra personnel will be provided.

“Yesterday was a very tragic day in America and the State of Georgia. Today, we had a student make a comment on social media that we take very serious because the Leeds Police Department’s top priority is our dedication to protect everyone in Leeds, Alabama,” said Irwin.
