    Birmingham Public Library upcoming September events

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — The Birmingham Public Library is hosting three upcoming events this month at its Central Library location downtown.

    On Friday, Sept. 6, BPL will host its last Bards and Brews Poetry Slam of the year at 6:30 p.m. At this event, Birmingham-based spoken word artists will compete for cash prizes. The first-place winner will receive $200, the second-place winner will receive $100 and the third-place winner will receive $50. Admission is free, and the event is 18-and-up.

    BPL will present a blues concert featuring Earl “Guitar Williams” and other artists as part of the 40th birthday celebration of the Central Library East Building on Sept. 13. This will be a part of the Loud at the Library Series, and it will take place from 5- 7:30 p.m. As a part of Library Card Sign-Up Month, attendees will be able to sign up for new library cards or renew their old ones.

    On Sept. 14, from 3- 5 p.m., BPL will host a reception for three artists who currently have exhibitions on display at the Central Library as a part of the Art for Everyone Visual Series. The artists will be there to discuss their work.

    The current exhibitions on display at the library are the following:

    • “Things Great and Small” by Nelson Grice.
    • “Shaken by the Roots” by Leanna Leithauer-Lesley.
    • “Stop, Look and Listen” by Roger Stephenson.

    All three of these events are sponsored by the Alabama State Council on the Arts.
