TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ( WIAT ) — The University of Alabama honored former head coach Nick Saban Saturday afternoon by naming the field at Bryant-Denny Stadium after him.

Tide fans were loud and proud as they welcomed Saban back to the Walk of Champions.

The walk is nothing new to Saban, but Saturday had a new meaning for the former coach.

“I want this legacy to represent every player who played, who worked hard, every coach who helped those players develop,” Saban said.

“Saban Field at Bryant-Denny stadium” is now part of Saban’s legacy.

“It’s a great thing, he’s done a lot for the university, raised a lot of money and made a lot of men out of boys,” said Bubba Lewis, who lined up early on Saturday to get a front row seat to see Saban.

Tammy Jenkins also made the trip to see Saban. It was her first Alabama game, and she said there wasn’t a better game to choose.

“It’s awesome. I’m the biggest Alabama fan there is, and I’ve never been to a game, and I was like, we got to go,” Jenkins said.

All of the fans CBS 42 spoke with said they couldn’t be prouder to see their team playing on a field named after Saban.
