BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — AAA Alabama is hosting a TSA PreCheck event at its Birmingham office on Acton Road until Friday.

TSA PreCheck is an expedited screening program that makes risk assessments about passengers before they arrive at an airport checkpoint. Certification is valid for five years at a $78 enrollment fee.

Those interested can make an appointment via an enrollment website. Walk-ins are accepted but may experience a long wait time.

Salmonella strain linked to recalled eggs sends dozens to hospital across 9 states, CDC says

“This is a great opportunity to get your TSA PreCheck certification,” AAA Alabama spokesperson Clay Ingram stated in a press release. “Having this certification will save you lots of time and frustration when traveling. We noticed a need for a pop-up event in the Birmingham area, so we offered to let TSA host an event at our AAA office.”

Here’s a list of what documents to bring to a certification appointment for TSA PreCheck:

    • A valid US driver’s license
    • Either a US passport (valid or expired less than 1 year) or a birth certificate
    • Additional documents may be needed if your name (first, middle, and last) as listed on your license does not match what is on your passport or birth certificate. The most common example is a name change from marriage. An applicant would need to bring both the birth certificate and marriage license to show the name change that is listed on the license. In some cases, multiple name change documents are necessary to link identity documents (divorce decree, second marriage certificate, etc.).
    • Photocopies of documents are not accepted. All required documents must be originals.

TSA PreCheck has expanded to approximately 200 airports across the country.
