JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. ( KDVR ) — A dash camera caught two aggressive drivers involved in a road rage incident on a Colorado state highway Saturday afternoon.

The video, recorded around 4 p.m., shows two cars swerving and driving in the middle of two lanes on C-470, and then onto the shoulder, while braking abruptly.

The driver who took the video said the two road rage drivers nearly caused several crashes in broad daylight, and the incident only lasted one minute.

“I was driving to pick up my two little kids and I was like, what if they were in the car with me?” the dash cam owner, who asked to remain anonymous, told Nexstar’s KDVR. “I just hope that they get to see this video and realize what their actions caused. They could have seriously injured not only themselves but other innocent drivers.”

The two road rage drivers reportedly just sped away.

Colorado State Patrol said most of the time road rage incidents stem from people being impatient.

“We predominately will see road rage scenarios in busy traffic, whether that’s on a small localized road or on a freeway, just depending on the time of day and volume of traffic,” Sgt. Patrick Rice said. “C-470 is not without its fair share of road rage and speeding motorists. Any of that loop that goes around the greater metro area, I-25, I-70, those tend to be aggressive roadways.”

What to do in a road rage situation?

If you are in a road rage situation, CSP recommends taking a deep breath, getting away from the aggressive driver and calling 911 or the state patrol with vehicle information if you have it.

“The way to get away from an aggressive driver is not to speed away but rather to slow down or even exit or take a turn,” Rice said. “If you try and get out in front of them, you’re just going to perpetuate the problem. What we don’t want you to do is try and catch up with an aggressive driver and create that road rage so you can get that description. Let them go and give us what you have.”

The driver with the dash camera said the two road rage drivers caused a rock to kick up on the windshield, causing damage. They recommend that all drivers have dash cameras so anyone involved in a road rage incident can prove it.
