We are closely tracking Francine in the Western Gulf of Mexico. It is forecast to move north on Wednesday and become a Category 2 Hurricane before making landfall along the Louisiana Coast.

On Wednesday, we will become cloudy with showers building into Central Alabama during the day. Some downpours are possible later in the day. It will be more humid and warm with highs in the middle 80s.

Francine will track north across Southeast Louisiana on Thursday. Alabama will be on the right side, or the wet side of the storm. We will have bands of heavy rain move across Central Alabama throughout the day.

The heaviest rain will be along and west of I-65 where 2-4″ of rain is forecast. Some minor flooding is possible.

It will be breezy with sustained winds of 15-25 mph and gusts to 40+ mph at times. This could cause trees to fall and power outages. There is also a low threat of tropical tornadoes over Western Alabama. The rain will keep high temperatures only in the 70s.

Francine will track north of Memphis on Friday, stall, and weaken. Feeder bands will continue to spiral into the center of the system throughout the day across Alabama. Some downpours are possible, but the heaviest rain will end. Otherwise, it will be mostly cloudy, breezy, warmer, and humid with highs in the lower 80s.

Weekend Outlook : Francine’s remnants will stay stalled well north of Memphis this weekend. This will keep Central Alabama partly to mostly and humid cloudy with scattered showers/storms on Saturday and Sunday. Highs will be in the lower to middle 80s.
