Student found with gun at Clay-Chalkville High School

CLAY, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A Jefferson County school official confirmed a student was found with a gun at Clay-Chalkville High School Wednesday.

John Huddleston with the Jefferson County School District stated a person reported the weapon’s presence on campus. A school resource officer promptly took a student in custody along with the gun.

Officials do not believe the student threatened anyone with the gun, according to Huddleston.

“We appreciate the individual that reported the information and followed the proper protocols and procedures,” he stated in a news release. “We also appreciate our School Resource Officers and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office for their quick response in dealing with the situation.”

No further information has been released at this time.
