    Birmingham police seeking information in 2022 homicide

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Detectives with the Birmingham Police Department are requesting assistance from the public in obtaining information on a homicide that occurred in February of 2022.

    Around 10:36 p.m. on Feb. 20, 2022, officers arrived to the 600 block of 9th Street North on reports of two people shot. Upon arrival, officers found Yalunda Watts-Young and an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. Both victims were transported to UAB Hospital and Watts-Young had life-threatening-injuries. She was pronounced dead at the hospital, while the adult male survived.

    Preliminary investigation suggests both victims were leaving an establishment when shots were fired at them. BPD believes one of the victims was targeted, but a motive has not been established. No arrests have been made.
