BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT ) — Birmingham police have confirmed the identity of the fourth victim killed in the mass shooting Saturday night.

According to the Birmingham Police Department, Anitra Holloman, Tahj Booker and Carlos McCain were pronounced dead on the scene. The fourth fatal victim, 26-year-old Roderick Lynn Patterson, was pronounced dead after being transported to UAB Hospital.

The 17 other wounded victims, which includes men and women, sustained injuries varying from not life-threatening to life-threatening. BPD detectives think the shooting was not random and believe victims were caught in the crossfire. Detectives are trying to figure out who the intended targets were. There are no suspects in custody.

“We believe the individual that was targeted was among the deceased,” Birmingham Police Chief Scott Thurmond said. “We believe that there was a hit, if you will, on that particular person as far as someone was willing to pay money to have that person killed.”

Thurmond said over 100 shell cases were collected at the scene. He said police believe there was a fully automatic weapon used in the shooting. Thurmond said the shooters were in a vehicle, departed the vehicle, the shooting occurred, and the shooters fled the scene.

The ATF and FBI are helping the BPD in the investigation. Those with information on the case are urged to call the BPD at 205-254-1764 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777. Crime Stoppers could award tipsters up to $5,000.

BPD will hold a press conference on Monday, Sept. 23 at 9:15 a.m. at BPD Headquarters.
