    Birmingham Barons playing for Southern League title

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — The Birmingham Barons are looking to clinch their first Southern League championship since 2013 against the Montgomery Biscuits at Regions Field on Tuesday.

    The Barons won the first game of the best-of-three championship series at Riverwalk Stadium, 7-2, on Sunday. First pitch for Tuesday’s contest is set for 7 p.m., and tickets are available. If the Barons lose Tuesday, a winner-take-all game 3 will occur at the same time Wednesday in Birmingham.

    The Barons advanced to the championship series after downing the Tennessee Smokies in the division round. They finished the regular season with a 72-66 record and clinched a playoff spot by winning the Southern League North Division’s first half with a 41-28 record.
