COLBERT COUNTY, Ala. ( WIAT ) — An investigation is taking place involving a police officer who shot a person who was allegedly coming at them with a knife in north Alabama.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, officers with the Muscle Shoals Police Department were called to the 300 block of Tuxedo Avenue West on Sunday. They were met by Ronald Parrish, 68, who was reportedly holding a knife.

After several attempts to get Parrish to drop the knife, he allegedly lunged toward one of the officers, causing one of them to shoot him. Parrish later died at Helen Keller Hospital.

Could Birmingham see a crime suppression unit like Montgomery?

The ALEA is investigating the shooting. Once the investigation is complete, the case will be turned over to the Colbert County District Attorney’s Office.
