BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Week 5 in college football will feature the biggest game of the season thus far. It’ll be a matchup between two top-five teams in Tuscaloosa.

Last Friday featured a ranked showdown between No. 24 Illinois and No. 22 Nebraska in Lincoln. It was a back-and-forth game that resulted in overtime. The Illini got the ball first in overtime and scored in just two plays. Its defense then came up big and forced a fourth-and-long and took down quarterback Dylan Raiola to end the game and earn a 31-24 victory. Illinois quarterback Luke Altmyer finished 21-of-27 for 215 yards and four touchdowns.

No. 6 Tennessee traveled to Norman to face No. 15 Oklahoma in its first SEC game. The Vols proved they are a legit contender in the national championship race, stifling the Sooners on defense and coming up big when needed on offense. Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava continues to live up to the hype, as he led the way with 194 passing yards and a score.

No. 11 USC traveled to the Big House to face the defending national champion Michigan Wolverines. The No. 18 Wolverines started quarterback Alex Orji, and all of their emphasis was on the run game. In an era where teams tend to prefer airing it out or have a balanced attack, the Wolverines only accumulated 32 yards in the air but ran for 290 yards on the Trojan defense.
