Man found dead at Jefferson County hotel, suspect in custody

FAIRFIELD, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A 35-year-old man was found dead when Jefferson County deputies responded to the Budgetel Inns & Suites in Fairfield on Saturday morning.

Henry Irby of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office stated deputies were dispatched around 11:21 a.m. to the hotel at 6400 Kelco Place to investigate a person shot report. In one of the hotel rooms, deputies met a barricaded suspect. The suspect, a 28-year-old man, then surrendered to law enforcement without incident.

The 35-year-old man, who suffered from apparent gunshot wounds, died at the scene. Those with information regarding the homicide investigation are urged to call the JCSO at 205-325-1450 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
