Walker County deputy injured after suspect chase ends in crash

WALKER COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — A Walker County deputy was injured when a suspect crashed into their cruiser during a chase late Wednesday night.

The Walker County Sheriff’s Office stated the pursuit began in Jefferson County and continued onto I-22 in Walker County. The driver collided with the deputy’s cruiser near the area of Industrial Boulevard and I-22 and came to a stop in ditch. The driver was taken into custody by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at the scene. Their identity has not been released at this time.

The deputy, also unidentified, was flown to a Birmingham area trauma center for further treatment.

The Walker County Sheriff’s Office did not say why the driver was being pursued initially.

ALEA is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
