BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A man who had been missing since earlier this summer was recently found dead in Northport.

On Monday, the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office’s Violent Crimes Unit announced that a body that had been found in the woods back in August was positively identified as Jason Robert Lainberger. Lainberger, 47, had gone missing in July.

Man shot to death over the weekend in Birmingham

Lainberger’s body was found Aug. 21, but due to the amount of time that he had been dead, his body was not identifiable. It was not until the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences took the case that they were able to positively identify him nearly two months later.

According to police, no sign of trauma or foul play is suspected with Lainberger’s death, nor was the location where he was found considered suspicious.

The VCU is working to pinpoint the cause of Lainberger’s death.
