2 arrests made following report of gunfire in Oakman

OAKMAN, Ala. ( WIAT) — Deputies with the Walker County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 1400 block of Self Road due to a call that reported multiple gunshots being fired into a vehicle and residence where a family, including a small child, resided.

No injuries were reported from the shooting.

After investigating the scene and collecting nearly 30 shell casings, investigators identified John Paul Rutledge III as the shooter.

According to the Walker County Sheriff’s Office, a search warrant was obtained and served at the suspect’s residence in the 300 block of Slate Creek Road, where investigators found an AR-15 style rifle with a 30-round magazine and ammunition that matched what was found at the crime scene. Ruttledge was at home at the time the search warrant was executed. Chase Worley, who had several active warrants, was also on the property. Both were taken into custody.

The Walker County Sheriff’s Office stated that the residence had also been the subject of several drug complaints.
