Athletes of the Week: The Homewood Offensive Line

HOMEWOOD, Ala. ( WIAT ) — It’s that time of week where we highlight some of the best performances we’ve seen in the past week. This Thursday, we are going back to last Friday night when Homewood won 23 to 7 over Gardendale.

This week’s CBS 42 Athletes of the Week are the Homewood offensive line. Heading into last week’s game, Homewood Head Coach Ben Berguson said that winning the battle up front would be the key to victory, and it was.

They players up front won that battle as the Patriots outgained Gardendale by 350 yards and finished with a 435 to 81 advantage.

Homewood quarterback Caleb Karson said, “Walker Williams, he’s a great O-lineman, senior. I just have great guys all across the board on the O-line. They’re getting better and better each week.”

This year’s offensive line for Homewood is older than many up front units in the region, and that leadership and experience has been key for the Patriots all season long.

Walker Williams, Homewood senior offensive lineman, said, “It was a good bounce back game for us. We kind of had some struggles early on this year, but it was really good getting that push and run the ball. Our it factor is just running up the ball and just being the most physical team on the field.”
