BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) – On Saturday, Oct. 12, and for the next three weekends, the Birmingham Zoo will be serving up Hoots & Howls, a family-friendly event for Halloween. Bill Lang is the director of marketing and events manager for the zoo and joined the CBS 42 Morning News to talk about what’s new this year.

“We used to do a nighttime event, but really they wanted something more family friendly, so we did Hoots & Howls,” Lang said.

You can expect a costume parade every day 1 p.m., animal shows at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and take part in a scavenger hunt for coyotes throughout the zoo.

Through next Friday, Oct. 18, the zoo is offering free admission to Hurricane Milton evacuees who show a valid Florida I.D.

“We saw more evacuees coming here than the last hurricane, so that’s why we offered this,” Lang said. “You’re dealing with a lot already, so come have a great day, come enjoy Hoots & Howls, walk around get your steps in.”

Hoots & Howls runs the last three weekends of October from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. with admission around $20. Kids under two years old get into the zoo for free.
