Tonight: Clear and comfortable with low temperatures falling into the lower to middle 50s.
Sunday: Southerly flow ahead of our next cold front will boost temperatures well into the 80s. Some places south of Birmingham may reach the upper 80s, but it will be a dry heat and no rain is expected as skies remain very sunny.
Next Week: A very strong cold front moves through on Sunday night and into early Monday morning. This will send temperatures plummeting through midweek as a surface high pressure builds in behind the front. Due to the dry air already in place at the surface ahead of the front, moisture will be limited so this will be another dry front. This front will lead to a wide spread in temperatures as its pushing through on Monday morning, with places north of Birmingham dipping into the lower 50s while areas south of town start their week on a more mild note in the lower to middle 60s. However, by Monday afternoon, the front will have cleared the region and breezy northerly winds kick in through Tuesday.
This will help to quickly rush in the coolest air of the season thus far, sending us well below average for the middle of October. As the surface high builds in from our north, high temperatures will only reach the middle to upper 60s for Tuesday and Wednesday. A northerly wind around 10-15 mph on Tuesday will make it feel just a little chillier. Overnight lows will be their coldest, in the low 40s, both Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Many areas outside of Birmingham and points north of town will drop into the upper 30s and with light to calm winds Thursday morning, some patchy light frost is possible outside of town. Sunshine and clear skies will prevail all week as a broad area of sinking air stays in place, shutting our rain chances down.
Tracking the Tropics: There is only one active disturbance in the far eastern Atlantic with a very low chance for development. If it does develop into anything, it will stay well away from land.
