BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A comet that astronomers said won’t make its way near Earth for another 80,000 years was caught on camera in Alabama during its last sighting.

The video, published on Facebook by Kevin Terrell , shows Tsuchinshan-ATLAS, also known as C/2023 A3, soar near Bucks Pocket State Park in Grove Oak. According to Terrell, the footage was taken Sunday.

According to NASA , the comet was first discovered last year and reportedly came from the outer reaches of the solar system.
