COLUMBIA, Mo. ( WIAT ) — Auburn and No. 19 Missouri will meet in Columbia on Saturday for the fifth meeting between the two programs.

The two Tigers competed against each other one time before Missouri joined the SEC in 2012. That one time was the 1973 Sun Bowl in which Missouri downed Auburn, 34-17. The contest aired on CBS with Lindsey Nelson as the network’s play-by-play announcer. It was Auburn head coach Ralph “Shug” Jordan’s third-to-last season leading the program.

Missouri, which was in the Big Eight Conference, tallied 28 points in the second quarter. Missouri recorded 390 total yards on offense — with 295 coming on the ground — compared to Auburn’s 233 yards.

Auburn lost four fumbles and threw one interception, though the Tigers were penalized once. Auburn quarterback Phil Gargis tossed two touchdown passes.

Where to watch Week 8 college football games

The first time Missouri and Auburn faced off as SEC members was in the 2013 conference championship game. A week after the “Kick Six” Iron Bowl, Auburn registered 59 points in Atlanta and held Missouri to 42 points. Auburn made the 2014 BCS National Championship Game, where it fell to Florida State, 34-31.

The Tigers-Tigers matchup resumed in 2017 in Missouri, and Auburn took that contest, 51-14. Auburn squeaked past Missouri, 17-14, in the 2022 meeting at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Saturday’s contest starts at 11 a.m. on ESPN. Missouri is 5-1, while the Tigers are 2-4 and have not won an SEC game in 2024.
