    Birmingham man charged in fatal July shootout

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A 28-year-old Birmingham man is charged with capital murder in connection with a deadly July shootout.

    The Birmingham Police Department confirmed Montez Malik Ollison was arrested Wednesday for the killing of 45-year-old Dietrich Boone, of Birmingham.

    Around 2 p.m. on July 4, officers discovered Boone shot on the 2500 block of 7th Avenue North. First responders transported Boone to UAB Hospital where he later died. Police said Boone was injured during a shootout at the intersection of 25th Street North and 7th Avenue North, and at least 50 various shell casings were recovered from the scene.

    At the time of the shooting, police stated the shooting was a targeted attack.

    Ollison is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond.
