Child Tax Credit: October Payments Hitting Parents’ Bank Accounts
(CBS Detroit) — The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) sent out the fourth round advance Child Tax Credit payments on October 15. The actual time the check arrives depends on the payment method and individual banks. Many parents with direct deposit set up through the IRS had already received their money Friday morning. That amounted to roughly 60 million children overall the last time around. The remainder of families receiving their credits via direct deposit should have their money by the end of the day. Mailed checks could take up to a week, given various issues with the U.S. postal system....

MIAMI, Fla. (CW44 News At 10)– A Texas man was sentenced in federal district court in Fort Lauderdale, Florida yesterday for knowingly and willfully making a materially false, fictitious, and fraudulent statement and representation to Special Agents of the United States Fish & Wildlife Service during a criminal investigation of international trafficking of primates into the United States.
Florida Man Sentenced For Drug Trafficking
MIAMI, Fla. (CW44 News At 10)– U.S. District Judge K. Michael Moore has sentenced a 53-year-old man from Highlands County, Florida, to 120 months in prison for drug trafficking. According to the court record, in 2019, Leon McNeil Roberts sold methamphetamine in Avon Park, Highlands County on three separate occasions. Specifically, on June 19, 2019, Roberts sold 27.38 grams of methamphetamine (actual) to a buyer. On June 28, 2019, Roberts sold 27.227 grams of methamphetamine (actual) to a buyer. And, on July 24, 2019, Roberts he sold 26.949 grams of methamphetamine (actual) to a buyer. Roberts previously pled guilty to distribution of five grams or more of methamphetamine. Juan Antonio Gonzalez, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, and La Verne J. Hibbert, Acting Special Agent in Charge, Drug Enforcement Administration, Miami Field Division made the announcement. DEA Miami investigated this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael D. Porter is prosecuting it.

Man Arrested In Connection To A Homicide
St. PETERSBURG, Fla. (CW44 News At 10)–St. Petersburg Police Detectives have arrested Tyron Byron Jackasal for the shooting death of Emily Grot on April 4, 2021. At 10:50 p.m. April 4, there was an informal gathering with several people at Wildwood Park, 1000 28th St. S. Detectives believe Jackasal fired shots in the Wildwood parking lot. A bullet struck Emily Grot while she was seated inside a car. Investigators do not believe Grot was the intended victim. Jackasal was charged with murder in the second degree Wednesday evening. He was already in the Pinellas County Jail on unrelated charges.

NYPD Officer Accused Of Fatally Shooting Her Ex-Girlfriend’s New Lover, Wounding Ex
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — An NYPD officer is facing murder charges after police say a love triangle turned deadly. Police said 31-year-old Yvonne Wu, a five-year veteran of the force, was lying in wait at her ex-girlfriend’s home in Brooklyn when she shot her ex and the ex’s new lover, CBS2’s Jessica Moore reported Thursday.

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — Shannon O’Connor, the woman jailed after police say she threw drunken teen sex parties at her Los Gatos home as well as at residences in Santa Cruz and the Lake Tahoe area, is also suspected of hosting similar parties in Idaho where she was arrested last weekend. The 47-year-old O’Connor, also known as Shannon Bruga, was arrested Saturday in Star, Idaho, northeast of Boise, where she and her two teenage sons moved to earlier this year. She currently faces 39 charges including felony child endangerment, sexual battery, annoying or molesting a child, and providing alcohol to a person under age 21. Read more

BROCKTON, Mass. (CBS Boston) — A woman burned by “scalding” hot coffee at a Massachusetts Dunkin’ location is suing the local owner of the store and two employees who allegedly mocked her injuries. Angela Barbosa filed the lawsuit in Plymouth Superior Court earlier in October. She said she was in the passenger’s seat of her sister’s car in June of 2020 when they pulled up to the Dunkin’ drive-thru at night and ordered three hot coffees.
