Problems Continue Over Fulton Co. Redistricting Map Process
FULTON COUNTY, Ga. (CW69 News at 10) — Elected officials say politics and chaos have kept Fulton County from proposing a fair redistricting map by the state deadline. Now, there’s a rush to get lawmakers to push a proposed map through the process to avoid legal issues. Less than 90 days away from the state’s primary elections, State Representative Mesha Mainor (D-56th Dist., Atlanta) says the Fulton County Commission has failed to propose a fair redistricting map. “The impact of this failure would force the citizens of Georgia to vote on 2010 census data until 2024,” Mainor said. She said that maps...

Dolly Parton Released A Line Of Southern-Style Cake Mixes, But You May Have To Wait To Try Them
(CBS News) — Few people ever reach the status of “living legend” — but Dolly Parton is certainly one of them. And she is now taking on a new venture: a partnership with Duncan Hines, offering cake mixes and frostings. As of Wednesday, all the products were sold out online. On its website, Duncan Hines says the products will soon be available in retailers. The country superstar said her love for baking comes from her southern roots. “I love to cook and I learned to do that growing up in the mountains of East Tennessee. My mom was a great cook, all my aunts and my grandma, so of course, I learned to cook that good ol’ southern stuff,” she told “CBS Mornings” co-host Gayle King. Parton’s cake line includes a limited edition variety of cake mixes that include coconut-flavored and banana-flavored mixes. Her line also includes buttercream frostings. Special Grand Jury Granted In Georgia’s Trump Election Interference Probe
ATLANTA (CBS News) — A Georgia district attorney’s request to have a special grand jury impaneled for her investigation into possible interference in the 2020 presidential election by former President Donald Trump has been granted. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis asked on January 20 for the special grand jury. Her request “was considered and approved by a majority” of the county’s Superior Court judges, according to an order filed Monday by Fulton County’s chief judge. Willis had written in her request that her investigators had “information indicating a reasonable probability” that the election “was subject to possible criminal disruptions.” Willis has said in interviews that the investigation includes a January 2, 2021 phone call in which Trump told Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, “I just want to find 11,780 votes.” Trump lost the state to Joe Biden by that margin, and the outcome was affirmed by several recounts. Volunteers Needed For Atlanta’s Point-In-Time Homeless Count
ATLANTA, Ga. (CW69 News at 10) — Volunteers are needed for Atlanta’s Point-in-Time (PIT) homeless count, which tracks how many sheltered and unsheltered people in a given area are experiencing homelessness. Ashlee Starr has volunteered for the PIT count in Atlanta for the last 15 years. “It really just entails asking people questions, gaining some demographic information,” she said. “I believe that we can end homelessness, and I think the best way to do that is to understand the needs of people experiencing homelessness.” HUD requires local governments to do a PIT count on the coldest day in January. Partners for HOME is the...
Free COVID-19 Test Rollout Begins Early Online
A day ahead of the scheduled rollout of free COVID-19 tests distributed by the Biden administration, some Americans are already placing orders for their free deliveries through a form posted by the U.S. Postal Service. The White House announced last week that it would publicly launch the site covidtests.gov on Wednesday. However, some early visitors to the website Tuesday morning were already able to see a button to order their free tests — a limited rollout that appears to have been expanded to more visitors later Tuesday afternoon. Every household is eligible to order four rapid antigen COVID-19 tests for free, to be delivered by the Postal Service, which will begin shipping tests in late January.
