Glen Burnie mother charged after 2-year-old dies with fentanyl in system

BALTIMORE -- A mother has been arrested and charged after her 2-year-old was found unresponsive inside a Glen Burnie home and later died with fentanyl in her system.

Tiffany Lynee Carr, 34, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, child neglect, reckless endangerment, and related charges.

Police said that around 7:15 p.m. on August 17, officers responded to the 8000 block of Winding Wood Road in Glen Burnie for an unresponsive child, who was found lying face down on a futon inside the home when emergency responders arrived. The child was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

Homicide detectives conducted an investigation and recovered evidence from the home.

Charging documents obtained by WJZ reveal that investigators discovered a pill that fell from a futon cushion, a second pill behind the piece of furniture, and a crack pipe that was set on a table adjacent to the child.

Toxicology results showed that fentanyl was found in the child's heart blood, according to the police report.

"The manner in which the fentanyl would have been introduced into the 2-year-old's system would have been through ingestion into the body," the police report states.

Carr allegedly admitted to being the toddler's sole caretaker while using heroin and crack cocaine about four times a day, the police report states.

"You can call or text 988 and receive help for addiction or substance abuse. You can also go to any of our safe stations," said Anne Arundel County Police spokesperson Marc Limansky.

Court records show five months before her daughter's death, Carr was charged with crack cocaine possession during a traffic stop near Elvaton Drive and Starwood Court. She pleaded guilty in September.

A judge levied a one-year jail term, suspending all but nine days and two years of supervised probation.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for the involuntary manslaughter case on October 23.
