Orioles' Santander singles, Burnes throws scoreless inning in MLB All-Star Game
BALTIMORE -- The Baltimore Orioles had all five players get on the field for the American League in Tuesday's Major League All-Star Game in Arlington, Texas.Pitcher Corbin Burnes, shortstop Gunnar Henderson and catcher Adley Rutschman started the Midsummer Classic, while Anthony Santander and Jordan Westburg were reserves.Burnes pitched a scoreless first inning despite walking a batter and allowing a base hit.Henderson, Rutschman and Westburg combined to go 0-for-5.Santander singled and scored in the fifth inning when Boston's Jarren Duran hit the game-deciding home run.The American League won, 5-3, and has defeated the National League 10 of the past 11 times.The Orioles (58-38), in first place in the American League East, open a three-game series at the Texas Rangers on Friday.

BALTIMORE - Triple-digit temperatures in Maryland caused direct impacts on train travel.Temporary speed restrictions were put in place on Tuesday for Baltimore's Light RailLink, MARC Camden Line and Amtrak systems.Amtrak states extreme heat can impact the rail infrastructure. If a track gets too hot, it can develop a sun kink and overhead electrical wires can sag. Until 8 p.m., the Maryland Department of Transportation issued an excessive heat advisory for Baltimore's Light RailLink. BALTIMORE -- Could Baltimore potentially be a future host of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game?The David Rubenstein-led group that owns the Baltimore Orioles has reached out to help make it a possibility, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said.According to the Baltimore Banner, because the Orioles just went through an ownership transition from the Angelos family to the current group, the application for the All-Star game is stuck in a holding pattern.The next open slot for the game is in 2027. "We have some really strong applications from clubs," Manfred said. "One of the things that I have been clear about is that a significant factor should be, when did you have a game the last time?"The last time the Baltimore Orioles hosted an All-Star Game was in 1993. Shooting at Baltimore's Westside Shopping Center leaves man dead, two injured
BALTIMORE - A man died and two others were injured from a shooting Tuesday evening in the parking lot of Westside Shopping Center in Southwest Baltimore.Police responded around 5:41 p.m. to the 2400 block of Frederick Avenue where they found a 20-year-old with multiple gunshot wounds.He was taken to the hospital where he died, according to police. Baltimore reaches record-tying heat at 104 degrees on Tuesday during hottest stretch in 75 years
BALTIMORE - Baltimore's temperatures have been scorching hot over the past three days, reaching triple digits.But, the heat took another jump on Tuesday, hitting 104 degrees, which tied a record set on this date in 1988.This has been the hottest three-day stretch in Baltimore in 75 years.Temperatures hit 101 degrees on Sunday, 102 on Monday and 104 on Wednesday, which all tied records for that particular date.The last time heat exceeded 101 degrees for three straight days was August 26-28, 1948. It has never happened for four straight days.According to the WJZ First Alert Weather Team, temperatures could climb back to 100 degrees on Wednesday.
Tiffany Tucker named UMBC's first woman and Black athletics director

Child dies from drowning at Loch Raven Reservoir
BALTIMORE -- A 9-year-old drowned at Loch Raven Reservoir, according to Baltimore County Police. Police responded to the reservoir around 5 p.m. to assist with a water rescue.
