Man suffers life-threatening injuries in crash between car and scooter in Boston 01:56

ROXBURY - One person was critically injured in a crash between a car and a scooter in Boston on Saturday afternoon and neighbors said they're not surprised it happened in what they call a dangerous intersection.

    Car towed from scene

It happened at around 3 p.m. at the intersection of Washington and Northampton streets in Roxbury, down the street from Northeastern University. A car with its airbags deployed was towed away from the scene and a scooter and helmet were seen lying in the street, along with broken glass.

The victim, a 64-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, it's unknown if they were in the car or on the scooter.

    Neighbors call intersection dangerous

Neighbors in the area said the intersection is dangerous and they're asking the city to do more to keep people safe. Northeastern sophomore Clara Hawkes lives blocks away from the crash site and said just days ago, she was hit by a car.

"I didn't see her, she didn't see me," said Hawkes. She wasn't hurt but warned others to be wary of reckless drivers. "I've seen a lot of kids around here too."

According to Boston's Vision Zero records, in 2023, the city saw more than 2,500 crashes involving motor vehicles. Three of them were fatal.

"It's always such an issue trying to cross the street. I feel like everyone's flying by and no one stops," said Northeastern student Talia Roche. She said there's a simple solution to a dangerous problem. "It would be nice to have a traffic light and a crosswalk."

I wish they would outlaw those stupid scooters, these fools doesn't no how to ride those things. I'm tired of hearing those scooters every day up and down the road where I live.
