Cameras captured police with shields out in the neighborhood looking for the suspect. The officers appeared to be searching a blue pickup truck.

Police said Lake County sheriff's police were called to the scene after a car crash involving the suspect. Witnesses saw him and a female passenger flee the scene on foot.

The female passenger was taken into police custody before Little was.

Police were in the process of towing that truck away when CBS News Chicago arrived at the scene late Tuesday afternoon. Lake County Sheriff's Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said while two guns were recovered near the scene, police still believe the suspect was armed.

Lake County sheriff's police said while they did not people to shelter in place while the search was under way, they hoped for those in the area along Route 14 from Route 22 to the north to Route 59 to the south to be vigilant.

Police used drones, police dogs and even an aircraft to search the area.

The police activity in the area prompted a soft lockdown of all Barrington 220 School District buildings, meaning no one was able to enter the buildings as classes went on as normal.

Later Tuesday night, Little was taken into custody and to an area hospital.
