Driver fleeing street takeover in South LA crashes into rows of parked vehicles 02:28

Multiple rows of parked cars were damaged in South Los Angeles early Monday morning when they were hit by a driver who was allegedly fleeing from a nearby street takeover.

Los Angeles Police Department says that the driver, whom they have not yet identified, hit at least a dozen cars as he sped away from the sideshow, which was happening blocks away at Colden Avenue and San Pedro Street at around 3:45 a.m.

Despite the arrest, neighbors are still rattled and fed up with the repeat instances of the dangerous driving that puts both their property and lives at danger.

Aaliyah Thomas, who lives in the area, says that the sound of the collision seemed to last for as long as 10 seconds.

"I just heard, like, multiple cars being, like, colliding," she said. "I see one car that's, like, really impacted, like, really bad."

She says that she also saw two males on the ground nearby and that they looked severely injured.

Many living in the neighborhood are left wondering how they're going to afford the repairs on their vehicles, especially those that use it as their only means of transportation to get to and from work.

"A lot of the people that are here are also low income, so I think it'll really affect them ... I'm pretty sure some cars may have been, like, totaled," she said. "It makes me really nervous and scared to even be in this neighborhood."
