Bicyclist killed by hit-and-run driver in Irwindale, suspect arrested
A hit-and-run driver has been arrested and is facing a murder charge after killing a bicyclist in Irwindale Tuesday night.Officers responded to the scene around 8:30 p.m. near Arrow Highway and Rivergrade Road where they found a pedestrian lying next to a bike in the road, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said after hitting the victim, the suspect drove away from the scene and abandoned the vehicle. Witnesses alerted Irwindale police to the suspect's location and officers arrested him.During the investigation, the El Monte Police Department informed Irwindale PD that the suspect was involved in allegedly stealing a car from a Toyota dealership in El Monte. El Monte police were in pursuit of the suspect as he drove from El Monte into Irwindale but had called off the pursuit before the suspect fatally struck the bicyclist.The suspect was booked into the West Covina Jail on a murder charge.

Mother convinces pursuits suspects to exit stolen car
The Los Angeles Police Department started a high-speed pursuit of a stolen vehicle Tuesday night.It started near Northridge at about 9:30 p.m. The driver reached about 90 mph on surface streets in the San Fernando Valley.During the pursuit, the suspect turned off the vehicle's headlights while speeding through city streets in Lake Balboa.Officers used spike strips twice during the pursuit. The second successfully caused the suspect to pull over near Welby Way and Yarmouth Avenue in Reseda. The suspects did not immediately exit the vehicle. After a brief standoff, a woman walked past the police and approached the stolen vehicle before talking to the driver. Shortly after, two occupants exited the car with their hands up. The woman said she was the mother of the person in the passenger seat of the stolen vehicle.

A helicopter landed at Pan Pacific Park in the Fairfax District Tuesday night.It's unclear what caused the helicopter to make the controlled landing. Four firefighters suffer heat-related illness while battling fire at San Fernando church
Four firefighters required treatment from heat-related illness while battling a pesky fire at a church in San Fernando on Tuesday. The blaze was first reported just before 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of San Fernando, located in the 1500 block of W. Glenoaks Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. It took around 100 firefighters more than two hours to fully extinguish the flames, which broke out int he attic of the one-story church. "During the incident, four firefighters sought medical help from on-scene paramedics due to heat-related illness. Three of them rested and recovered on scene and then continue working, and one was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and care," said a statement from the department.The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but crews believe it may have been sparked by rooftop construction.All people who were inside of the building when the fire started were able to safely evacuate.
