LA Sparks sign 5-year extension to play home games at Crypto.com Arena
The Los Angeles Sparks have signed a five-year extension to continue playing their home games at Crypto.com Arena through 2029.The deal with arena owner AEG was announced Tuesday.The Sparks, one of the WNBA's original eight teams, have played at the downtown arena since 2001, winning three league championships. 1 dead, 2 wounded after shooting in Long Beach
One person is dead and two others wounded after a shooting in Long Beach late Monday evening. It happened at around 9 p.m. near 49th Street and Long Beach Boulevard, according to Long Beach Fire Department officials. Circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unknown at the time, but paramedics arrived to find one person dead at the scene. A second victim was rushed to a nearby hospital and a third was treated at the scene before being released. With SkyCal over the scene, it appeared that the shooting took place outside of Carlies Bar, where LBPD officers could be seen walking in and out of the business while also working in the parking lot out front. 3 men shot and killed under 105 Freeway in Downey
Three men were found shot do death under the 105 Freeway overpass in Downey over the weekend. Officers were dispatched to the Rio San Gabriel Riverbed that runs underneath the freeway at around 9 p.m. on Saturday after learning of the discovery, according to a statement from the Downey Police Department. All three men were pronounced dead at the scene. On Monday, police revealed that they believe all three victims were homeless and living in the area at the time of the shooting. They are all believed to be between 34 and 37 years old, police said. "This appears to be an isolated incident," the DPD statement said on Saturday.They followed that up on Monday, stating that they do not believe the shooting was random and there is not any known threat to surrounding neighborhoods. "In order to preserve the integrity of the investigation, no additional details are available at this time," the Monday release said.No further information was provided. Man kills roommate at sober living home in Irvine
A 24-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his roommate at a sober living facility in Irvine on Monday. It happened at around 6 a.m. at a home near the 200 block of Toll Road, according to the Irvine Police Department. Officers arrived to find the victim, an unidentified 18-year-old man, suffering from serious injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was later declared dead. High-speed chase ends in crash at Mid-City intersection; three suspects bail on foot
A high-speed chase through the streets of Mid-City came to a sudden end on Monday when the suspect crashed into another car and bailed on foot. It's not clear exactly when the pursuit started, but Los Angeles Police Department officers say that they began chasing the driver of an allegedly stolen vehicle near Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue. SkyCal was overhead as the driver hurtled down surface streets, swerving around other cars and driving on the wrong side of the road before crashing at the intersection of S. La Brea Avenue and Third Street. After crashing, the driver and two passengers jumped out of the car and fled in different directions. It's unclear if anyone had been taken into custody.
LAPD seeking hit-and-run driver who killed 26-year-old woman in Larchmont
Police are seeking help from the public in locating a hit-and-run driver who killed a 26-year-old woman in the Larchmont community in late June. The crash happened at around 3:20 a.m. on June 22 near the intersection of N. Western Avenue and Rosewood Avenue, when the victim was crossing the street inside of a marked crosswalk, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. As she crossed the street, the victim was struck by a late-model white pickup truck, which investigators believe was either a Ford or Chevrolet that was traveling southbound on Western Avenue. The woman, who remains unidentified, was rushed to a nearby hospital where she later died. The City of Los Angeles, through the Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund, is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information that leads to the identification, arrest and conviction of the suspect involved in the deadly incident. Chino police confiscate more than 300 pounds of illegal fireworks over 4th of July weekend
More than 300 pounds of illegal fireworks were seized in Chino over the Fourth of July weekend, according to city officials. In a statement on Monday, they said that officers with both the Chino and Chino Hills Police Departments combined to confiscate 310 pounds of the illegal explosives from places where "fireworks are not allowed." On top of the seizures, 59 citations were issued on the Fourth of July alone, with offenders receiving receiving a $1,000 fine each for possession or use of illegal fireworks. Another smaller brush fire broke out the day after the Fourth in Dana Point, but crews were able to keep the total acreage consumed under half an acre before it spread to nearby homes.
