1 dead, 3 critically injured in Long Beach boat crash
One man died and 10 people were taken to the hospital after a boat crash in Long Beach Wednesday, according to the Long Beach Fire Department. It happened in Alamitos Bay and paramedics responded at 9:21 p.m., said Jake Heflin, a fire department spokesperson. Lifeguards and firefighters who were assisting with the water rescue said the 40-foot boat crashed into the jetty off of Marina Way. The man who died has not been identified but fire officials said is believed to have been around 40 to 50 years old.There was a total of 11 people aboard and three were left in critical condition, fire officials said. Between four and five people had to be rescued from the boat and the rest were rescued from the jetty.The night of the incident, fire officials said four people sustained serious injuries. The cause of the crash remains under investigation but authorities said speed is believed to be a possible factor.
Person killed in rollover crash in Pacoima
One person died Wednesday and another was injured when a vehicle overturned on the 118 freeway and rolled onto a below street in Pacoima. The crash occurred around 4:40 p.m., with the vehicle overturning on the freeway and coming to rest in the 10900 block of North Haddon Avenue, near Fielding Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.One person was ejected from the vehicle and was taken to a hospital in unknown condition. A second person was trapped in the crumpled vehicle and had to be extricated from the wreckage. That person was pronounced dead at the scene, LAFD said.Information was not immediately available on the identity of the fatally injured person. The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
Man and woman found dead in Rosemead
A man and a woman were found dead in Rosemead Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The victims were found dead around 12:20 p.m. Wednesday in the 7600 block of Steddom Drive, according to LASD. Deputies were initially investigating the incident as a shooting but the cause of death is unknown at this time. No arrests have been made in the case. Anyone with information regarding the incident was urged to contact the LASD Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Man found guilty of murder as a hate crime in death of Blaze Bernstein
An Orange County, California, jury found 26-year-old Sam Woodward guilty of first-degree murder with a hate crime enhancement Wednesday for the 2018 death of Blaze Bernstein, whose body was found days after he went missing, buried in a shallow grave at a Lake Forest park. The jury reached its verdict after deliberating for just one day. The judge hushed the courtroom as applause was heard during the reading of the verdict. Wildfire burning in Simi Valley, evacuations ordered
About 200 Ventura County firefighters are battling a blaze in the hills of Simi Valley which has triggered the evacuation of residents in the area, according to county officials. Bird flu confirmed in a Colorado farmworker
A case of H5 influenza, also known as bird flu or avian influenza, has been confirmed in a man who was working at a dairy farm in northeastern Colorado. Traffic grinds to a halt after a horse is killed on the I-5 Freeway
Traffic slowed down on the I-5 Freeway Tuesday night after a runaway horse died in one of the lanes. The California Highway Patrol said three horses started running across several lanes of the busy highway a little before 9:00 p.m., near the transition road on the westbound 210 Freeway close to the Newhall Pass. Two horses died after colliding with a car in the middle lane. It eventually died in the No. 4 lane. Police were in pursuit of a bus stolen from Children's Hospital Los Angeles.The Los Angeles Police Department, the agency that started the pursuit, said the suspect carjacked the bus from the Hollywood area. Five suspects jump out of stolen car after pursuit with LAPD
The Los Angeles Police Department was in pursuit of a stolen vehicle near Downtown LA Tuesday afternoon.The suspect recklessly drove through busy streets, nearly hitting several pedestrians and bicyclists, prompting officers to drop back and track the driver with a helicopter. The driver continued to blow through red lights despite uniformed police officers no longer following the car on the ground.
