Brush fire prompts evacuation warning in Newbury Park
Firefighters have issued evacuation warnings for a Thousand Oaks neighborhood as a brush fire burns nearby on Saturday. The blaze was first reported at about 3:10 p.m. in the 1100 block of Arroyo View Street in the Newbury Park neighborhood, according to the Ventura County Fire Department. It's unclear how many acres of vegetation the fire has torched thus far, but SkyCal flew over the scene where ground units could be seen as they doused some charred ground on a hillside. A woman is dead after a crash with an alleged drunk driver in the Willowbrook area early Saturday morning. The crash happened at around 12:45 a.m. near the intersection Central Avenue and El Segundo Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol. Alleged reckless driver hits Los Angeles County deputy during pursuit
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department was in pursuit of a reckless driver who allegedly hit a deputy.Deputies were able to trap the driver in a parking lot near Buliss Road and Myrrh Street in Compton after spiking the car's tires and blocking the exits. The driver stayed in a parking spot while deputies surrounded the vehicle and placed another spike strip in front of it. The suspect refused to surrender, aimlessly driving around the parking lot while dragging a spike strip.Deputies boxed the suspect in with their vehicles after a brief drive around the parking lot. They shot pepper balls into the back of the sedan after pinning the suspect's car to hopefully end the standoff. However, the suspect and a passenger inside refused to exit the car but did roll down the driver-side window. After a brief standoff, the driver and the passenger surrendered to deputies.
Fireworks spark small vegetation fire in Dana Point Harbor
Orange County firefighters quickly extinguished a blaze on a Dana Point hillside on Friday after a fireworks display started the small inferno. It started above the Dana Point Harbor, below some homes and businesses. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to a quarter of an acre. "We urge the community to help keep everyone safe. While the work of our firefighters and @OCSheriff deputies prevented injuries and saved property today, fireworks can have tragic consequences," the Orange County Fire Authority posted on Instagram.
12-year-old killed, 9 others injured after car crash near Watts
A three-car collision near Watts killed a 12-year-old girl and injured several more Friday night. The crash happened a little before 6:20 p.m. in the 630 block of E. Century Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. It injured nine people: six adults and three juveniles. All but one of the patients escaped out of their cars. Firefighters rescued one of the drivers from her car. Paramedics took her to a nearby hospital in a serious condition. Crews took five other adults in fair condition to the hospital. The three kids were in moderate condition when ambulances drove them away from the scene. The 12-year-old died at the scene. Investigators did not immediately release the cause of the crash.

Anaheim police opened fire twice during a chase with a hit-and-run suspect on Friday, which finally came to an end when they executed a PIT maneuver. The chase is said to have started at around 3:45 a.m., when officers witnessed a hit-and-run crash. Plenty Fire burns 75 acres during grueling heat in Santa Clarita
Firefighters rushed to the Santa Clarita Valley after a brush fire burned about 75 acres.
