After a Metro board member said she was too afraid to ride the system alone, new Board chair Janice Hahn climbed aboard to see the state of the public transportation that her father, Kenny Hahn, helped build.An analysis of the last 12 months of Metro's available data shows that violent crime across the entire system has increased by nearly 33%, a majority of which happened on trains. Investigation underway after man allegedly fires shots at LAPD officers in Downtown LA
An investigation is underway after a man allegedly fired shots towards police in Downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday. It's not clear immediately when the incident happened, but Los Angeles Police Department officers were near 12th Street and San Julian when a man on a bicycle reportedly opened fire in their direction. A suspect was detained a couple of blocks away, police said. They have not yet confirmed if it was the person that they believed fired the shots. No officers were struck by gunfire, but they say that one of their cruisers did suffer some damage. No further information was provided.

The Los Angeles City Attorney filed misdemeanor charges against the man caught on video slapping an autistic boy at a bus stop a few weeks ago.In the video, Scott Sakajian slaps 10-year-old Alfred Morales after the boy touches the emblem on the front of his Mercedes-Benz while crossing the street with his sister. Armed suspect arrested after holding person hostage during robbery in Long Beach
Police arrested an armed man who allegedly held someone hostage during a robbery attempt in Long Beach on Tuesday. The incident began at around 4 p.m. when officers were dispatched to the 100 block of W. Ocean Boulevard for reports of a robbery in the area, according to the Long Beach Police Department. Upon arrival, detectives determined that the suspect had reportedly gotten into another person's car with what appeared to be a firearm, briefly holding the driver against his will, according to the LBPD statement. SkyCal flew over the scene, where more several patrol cars could be seen in the area as the investigation continued. Police say that the suspect was taken into custody shortly after they arrived. No injuries have been reported.Detectives are working to determine what motivated the suspect to hold the victim hostage.A replica firearm was recovered during the arrest, police said. Flooding causes Pasadena Senior Center to shut down
Plumbers are the only people allowed inside the Pasadena Senior Center Tuesday after a major leak flooded the building yesterday. World War II veteran's remains returned to United States for burial after more than 80 years
After more than 80 years, the remains of an 26-year-old killed overseas during World War II are being returned to the United States for burial at Riverside National Cemetery. Driver rescued after Jeep goes into San Gabriel River
A man was rescued from the roof of a Jeep that drove into the San Gabriel River just north of Seal Beach Tuesday, authorities said.First responders found the vehicle submerged in the water at 10:20 a.m., in an area of the river just off the Pacific Coast Highway between Seal Beach and Belmont Park in Long Beach, according to the Long Beach Fire Department.
