Northwest Miami-Dade murder-suicide victims ID'd, police say

MIAMI — An investigation is underway after a man and woman died following an apparent murder-suicide that happened at a Northwest Miami-Dade home on Saturday morning.

Miami-Dade Police told CBS News Miami that officers were called out to a shooting at 12460 W. Randall Dr. around 8:30 a.m. When they arrived, they found the man and woman suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Police quickly closed off the street and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded but both died at the scene.

On Sunday afternoon, police identified the two as Marcos Antonio Gonzalez, 40, and Raiza Cajuso, 39.

Police said that the preliminary investigation revealed that Gonzalez and Cajuso, who were in a "domestic relationship" at one point but are now separated, got into a verbal fight that turned violent when he pulled out a gun and shot her before turning the gun on himself.

Police also noted that they shared three children — ages 9, 13 and 15, respectively — and they were inside the home when the shooting happened and one of them made the 911 call.

Police told CBS News Miami that other family members are helping the children. The youngest child was taken to the hospital as a precaution with a grandfather.

"I'm glad that the kids are ok," said neighbor Donna Williams as neighbors gathered at the scene to see what happened.

Williams told CBS News Miami that she was surprised at the scene because "this never happens around here."

As the investigation continued, police noted that there had been no recorded history of domestic violence. Police also told CBS News Miami that it was a difficult call for them, saying that these kinds of tragedies should never happen.

"We have multiple avenues in modern societies to prevent things like this from happening," said Miami-Dade Police Detective Andre Martin. "We encourage anyone who is in any sort of domestic relationship that has turned or they think may turn violent to seek resources. Domestic violence injunctions are a very useful tool to try to address concerns like this."
