Threat leads at least two St. Paul schools to cancel classes on Thursday 01:37

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Threats on social media have several St. Paul Public Schools on alert, with at least two schools closing their doors on Thursday.

Out of precaution, Community School of Excellence and Hope Community Academy are closed.

St. Paul police say they're aware of the threats and are working with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and district security. Officials say they do not believe the threats are credible and there is currently no danger to any SPPS campus, but they will continue to monitor and prepare just in case.

School will be in session today at Hmong College Prep Academy, but there will be a police presence on campus as an extra precaution.

Hmong Language and Culture School's lower campus is also aware of the threats and is investigating. Leaders there say parents who decide to keep students at home should contact the school to be excused.

The school day will continue as normal at Urban Academy Charter School, but educators there say they're also working with local authorities to ensure the school is safe.

St. Paul City Council Member James Lo posted a letter on Facebook from the district that was sent out to reassure families that SPPS works closely with local, state and national law enforcement partners to evaluate every threat.

The threat comes a week after a mass shooting at a Georgia high school that killed four people and injured nine others.
