Students reportedly injured in northern Minnesota school bus crash 00:54

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Minn. — Ten students needed hospitalization after a school bus crash in northern Minnesota Thursday morning, according to school officials.

St. Louis County Schools Superintendent Reggie Engebritson says a school bus for Cherry School, located in Iron, was on its route when a motorist ran a stop sign and struck the bus, causing it to roll.

The Minnesota State Patrol, which is investigating the crash, says it occurred just before 8 a.m. Thursday in the area of County Road 5 and Town Line Road, which is just east of Hibbing.

Engebritson says there were 23 students on the bus at the time and 10 students were taken to the hospital with "varying degrees of injuries." Some of those students have been released from the hospital. According to information from the state patrol, 11 additional students were hurt but did not need hospitalization.

Both drivers were also taken to the hospital. Northern News Now reports that the driver of the passenger vehicle was airlifted with serious injuries.

According to Engebritson, the school district is working with the state patrol in its investigation and noted that the bus is equipped with cameras.
