Technical rescue needed for man who fell down river bluff
MINNEAPOLIS — A man fell down the river bluff near St. Anthony Ave and East River Parkway on Saturday afternoon. Fire crews responded to the scene around 4:20 p.m. and found the man lying on the side of a steep riverbank. The man had injuries. Fire crews were able to scale the bluffs with a rescue basket and medical equipment. They were able to provide aid and load him into the rescue basket. A boat carrying additional emergency personnel was brought to the spot. Crews then loaded the man onto the boat and he was taken to a nearby boat launch where paramedics were waiting. He was taken to a local hospital and is currently in stable condition.

Kittens dumped in portable toilet rescued by Chicago-area fire department
Firefighters in suburban North Chicago saved three kittens who were dumped into a portable toilet filled with human waste. On July 9, a person called 911 to report "kittens stuck in a port-a-potty" outside the North Chicago Youth Center on Lewis Avenue. The responding firefighters found the kittens trapped inside the toilet, unable to escape because of their small size. According to a news release from the North Chicago Fire Department, Battalion Chief Thomas Deinken, with help from the 911 caller, rescued "the very frightened and extremely soiled kittens from the toilet without further difficulty or harm." The kittens were examined at the fire department and thoroughly cleaned. Woman struck, killed by motorist while crossing intersection in Blaine
BLAINE, Minn. — A 47-year-old woman was killed while crossing an intersection north of the Twin Cities early Thursday evening.According to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, a woman was attempting to cross an intersection at Highway 47 and 85th Street in Blaine when a driver in a 2007 Toyota Highlander struck her. The motorist was traveling southbound on the highway.Life-saving measures were given to the woman, but she was declared dead at the scene. The Minnesota State Patrol identified the woman as Lavonne Piipke of Blaine. According to the state patrol's incident report, the SUV driver is a 31-year-old man, also from Blaine.
