New Jersey Turnpike crash injures at least 20 people, state police say 00:23

Multiple lanes were reopened northbound on the outer roadway of the New Jersey Turnpike after a morning crash that sent about 20 people to the hospital.

State police responded to a multi-car crash in the outer lanes of the turnpike at milepost 54.5 in Bordentown Township, Burlington County, before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The crash involved six cars, including two tractor-trailers, a transit bus, a flatbed truck, a box truck, and a transit van, state police said.

The crash caused a 3.5-mile backup, 511NJ said on X.

Burlington County dispatchers said about 20 people were transported from the scene, but there were no reported fatalities.

Chopper 3 showed a FlixBus pulled over on the shoulder and several people with luggage alongside the road. A smaller bus later pulled up and the people with luggage boarded the bus.

State police said no non-life-threatening injuries were reported, and the crash remains under investigation.

The lanes reopened around 1:45 p.m.
