PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A woman and girl were killed and two people are in critical condition after a fire broke out at a Northeast Philadelphia rowhome Saturday morning, according to the Philadelphia Fire Department.

Firefighters were called out to the 900 block of Granite Street, off Summerdale Avenue, around 7:30 a.m. and found heavy smoke coming from the second floor of a home. There were six people inside at the time, according to Philadelphia police.

Police said an eight-year-old girl and 31-year-old woman were pronounced dead at the scene by medics.

In addition, three people were injured - two of whom were taken to hospitals. One was a 9-year-old boy with burns to his arms, legs and back; he was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in critical condition.

A 32-year-old man with burns to his face and back was taken to Temple University Hospital. A 28-year-old man also had a burn on his hand.

Another man fled the scene and police are working to determine his identity.

Paramedics treated two people for injuries and they were taken to a hospital in serious condition, a spokesperson for the department said.

After the fire broke out, an all-hands order was issued and about 60 firefighters were on the scene working to put out the fire, a spokesperson for the department said.

The Philadelphia Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
