Cloudy across Philadelphia Thursday morning before sunnier afternoon

The coastal low we've been tracking all week remains in place offshore, but the chance for rain has definitely underperformed. As that system meanders to our east, it's ability to produce much in the way of accumulating rainfall has been and will stay fairly weak.

As today unfolds, that area of low pressure will shift east and allow for some drier air to push over the region allowing for the clouds to break and the sunshine to mix in through the afternoon. With increasing amounts of sunshine, temperatures will have the potential to climb into the low, if not middle 80s Thursday afternoon.

While one coastal low pressure system shifts east through the day on Thursday there's some indication that an appendage off of that low pressure system may develop a little closer to the New Jersey coast and rotate inland a bit by Friday afternoon.

While the day looks to start bright and sunny, a brand of clouds may move in from the northeast to dim things a bit along the coast in the afternoon - a stray shower is possible as well depending on how close that low moves back west.

By this weekend an area of high pressure centered northeast of Maine will begin to push some drier, cooler and more stable air into the Philadelphia area. Temperatures Saturday afternoon will have a good chance to hit 80 but a cold front will try to slide through at night.

As of now, looks like nothing more than a few showers, but by Sunday highs will only be in the low-middle 70s with lows in the low 60s and upper 50s. This dose of slightly cooler conditions will be perfect with Sunday being the first official day of Fall - the autumnal equinox is at 8:43am on Sunday. Monday, by the way, appears to be even cooler with temps struggling to climb out of the 60s.

Right now the next decent chance of rain could come from a cold front that may make into the eastern half of the United States into the second half of next week.
