Man killed in overnight shooting on MacArthur Blvd. in East Oakland

Police in Oakland have launched a homicide investigation after a man was found fatally shot on MacArthur Boulevard late Thursday night.

Around 11 p.m., officers responded to the 9000 block of MacArthur near the Castlemont neighborhood, following a ShotSpotter activation and a call to police of a shooting.

When police arrived, they found the victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Despite medical attention from officers and paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the victim was an Oakland resident. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The shooting was the second homicide that took place in East Oakland Thursday night and the third fatal shooting in less than a week.

Around 7 p.m. , a man was pronounced dead following a shooting on the 7900 block of Ney Avenue. Two other victims -- an adult male and an adult female -- were injured and transported themselves to nearby Highland Hospital.

On Saturday morning, police responded to the 1600 block of 83rd Avenue following a ShotSpotter activation in the area at around 9 a.m.

When police arrived, they found four people who suffered gunshot wounds, two of whom were pronounced dead at the scene. Earlier this week, Oakland Police Department officials confirmed that two suspects were arrested Monday in connection with the weekend quadruple shooting.

The two fatal shootings with multiple victims happened in the same general area of East Oakland, with the locations only about a five-minute drive away from each other.
