Top 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship golf predictions

One surprise: Rory McIlroy, a four-time major champion and one of the top favorites, does not crack the top five this week. McIlroy has officially gone more than 10 years since his last major tournament victory, coming up short 39 times since his 2014 PGA Championship win as a 25-year-old. He missed the cut at the Open Championship at the end of July before finishing T5 in the Olympics.

McIlroy has five top-10 finishes in 15 individual events this season, but he ranks 90th on the PGA Tour in GIR percentage. He is also outside the top 25 in strokes gained approaching the green and strokes gained from putting. McIlroy missed the cut in this event two years ago, and the model is predicting another rough week at TPC Southwind for the Northern Irishman.

The model has also examined where Xander Schauffele finishes. The 30-year-old is amid the best season of his career, breaking through with his first two major championship wins. His first win came at the PGA Championship in May, and he added a win at the Open Championship last month.

Schauffele has finished inside the top 15 in eight straight events, including a T9 finish at the men's Olympic golf competition. However, he has not cracked the top 20 in the last two years at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, finishing T24 last year.
