The 2024-25 Serie A season is back. Here's what you need to know about the Italian league's first week of action. Simone Inzaghi's Inter will try to defend the title and win the Scudetto back-to-back, while most of the other big teams have changed their manager during the summer 2024. Juventus appointed former Bologna boss Thiago Motta, while Paulo Fonseca became the new AC Milan manager and Antonio Conte is back in Serie A as he became the new Napoli head coach. You can catch all the action, including select games in Italian, live on Paramount+ all season long. Here's what to know about this week's action.
More pressure on Christian Pulisic
United States men's national team star Christian Pulisic makes his 2024-25 Serie A debut on Saturday when AC Milan host Torino at San Siro. After an exciting debut campaign in Italy, the American star is aiming to repeat his first campaign after scoring 15 goals in all competitions in his first season at the club. After the arrival of new manager Paulo Fonseca, Pulisic will have even more responsibility as there will be more expectations on him and there are also chances to see him as a number ten in the 4-2-3-1 system. The Portuguese manager is looking for a much more offensive team, where Pulisic can play alongside both Samu Chukwueze and Rafael Leao behind the new number nine, Alvaro Morata.
Napoli have appointed Antonio Conte after a disappointing season where the Azzurri ended up tenth in the league and outside any European competition for this season. Conte has the task to start a new cycle at the club, but he already expressed some displeasure about the current situation of Napoli after winning on penalties last Saturday against Modena in the first round of the 2024-25 Coppa Italia: "There are objective situations, you have to look at reality. I hear that this is the squad for the Scudetto, it's not true because 12 players from that year left. In every negotiation we have to respect three parameters: the cost of the player, his salary and then the fact that without without Europe, Napoli is not attractive as before," he said to Mediaset.
Simone Inzaghi's Inter will kick off the new season at Genoa and all the eyes will be on the same team that dominated the past season. In the meantime, the Nerazzurri have announced the new deal of club captain and Argentinian striker Lautaro Martinez, who committed to the Italian giants until the summer 2029. A strong message to all the other teams: Inter want to continue to win as they did it last season.
