The Colorado Buffaloes will make their return to the Big 12 in 2024 and continue to be one of the most talked-about teams in college football. The Buffs' second season under head coach Deion Sanders kicks off August 29 when CU hosts North Dakota State, the No. 2-ranked team in the country at the FCS level, at Folsom Field. The 2024 Colorado football roster will have a drastically different look, after Coach Prime and his staff added 55 new scholarship players during the offseason and saw over 40 players from the 2023 team transfer to other schools.

Sanders hasn't stopped trying to bolster the Colorado football depth chart since fall camp kicked off in early August. The Buffs landed transfer offensive lineman Kardell Thomas, who was a top-100 recruit in the 2019 recruiting class when he signed with LSU. Thomas has to make up ground, but he has the opportunity to compete for a starting role on an offensive line that will feature five new starters in 2024. Priority No. 1 for Coach Prime and his staff this offseason was getting better on the offensive line. Shedeur Sanders was the most-sacked quarterback in the FBS in 2023, and every starting offensive lineman from last season either transferred or graduated. While the Buffs added 12 new offensive lineman during the offseason (three from the high school and junior college ranks, and 9 transfers), that didn't stop Coach Prime from continuing to bolster the group.

Colorado once again turned to the Transfer Portal to land former LSU and Florida A&M offensive lineman Kardell Thomas. Thomas was a top-100 recruit in the 2019 recruiting class, but injuries kept his career from really taking off at LSU. "I'm a guy they need in the room," Thomas told BuffStampede. "I can come in with my experience and really shake the world up again. (Offensive line) coach (Phil Loadholt) talked to me and said he watched my FAMU and LSU film and felt they could develop me for the NFL. There are many, many years of NFL coaching on this staff. They run it like an NFL team. These months of being on this team will make it easy for me when I'm ready to take that NFL route. They can tell you everything before you get there." Another priority for the Buffs this offseason was improving the team's rushing attack. Part of the reason for CU's offensive line struggles and the constant pressure on Sanders was the team's abysmal running game. Colorado ranked dead last in the FBS in rushing yards per game (68.9) and yards per carry (2.3), and the team's top-four rushers from 2023 (Dylan Edwards, Anthony Hankerson, Sy'veon Wilkerson, and Alton McCaskill) all transferred all transferred to new programs.

Former walk-on Charlie Offerdahl is the only returning player involved in the team's running back competition, and he has impressed during fall camp. "Offerdahl's 11 rushing yards in 2023 is the only returning production for a group that the recent scholarship recipient leads. Despite the 'Rudy' comparisons and the public's hesitation to look beyond his humble OB (Original Buff) origins, there is more than enough talent and dawg in the junior's 5-11, 185-pound frame for Coach Sanders to name Offerdahl as the leading back in the opening weeks of camp," CU insider Sean Niehoff wrote on BuffStampede.
