The Week 1 NFL odds were released after the NFL schedule came out in May, but a majority of NFL bets roll in during the days leading up to the openers. While making NFL picks against the spread remains popular, Week 1 NFL parlay picks are also being assembled as bettors look for the opportunity to multiply their payouts. Key Week 1 NFL lines via the SportsLine Consensus include Chiefs (-3) vs. Ravens, Eagles (-2.5) vs. Packers, and Lions (-3.5) vs. Rams.
All those games will receive plenty of national attention and adjustments to the NFL betting lines during the Week 1 NFL schedule. However, savvy bettors are taking a close look at all 16 games as they look for the best values in the NFL spreads. Before you make any Week 1 NFL picks or NFL parlays, be sure to see what SportsLine senior analyst Larry Hartstein has to say .
A former lead writer for Covers and The Linemakers, Hartstein combines a vast network of Vegas sources with an analytical approach he honed working for Pro Football Focus. He tied for 52nd place (out of 1,598 entries) in the 2022 Westgate Las Vegas SuperContest, going 53-34-3 ATS. Hartstein's weekly Vegas contest selections form the basis of his NFL best bets column, which is 79-48-2 (62.2%, +25.95 units) since its inception in 2022. Anyone who has followed him is way up.
We can tell you Hartstein loves the Browns (-2.5) to cover against the Cowboys . The Browns might not have as flashy of a roster as Dallas in terms of skill positions, but Cleveland is arguably the most physical team in the NFL. Armed with an elite offensive line and a top-tier defense, the Browns could be a team that bettors overlook.
That happened last year as Cleveland's 58.8% cover rate ranked seventh in the NFL. Hartstein has isolated a scary matchup for Dallas in this one as rookie left tackle Tyler Guyton will have to contain Cleveland's Myles Garrett, the 2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, off the edge. Add in the fact that the CeeDee Lamb contract dispute has been a distraction for the Dallas offense during training camp and Hartstein expects the Browns to cover this small number.
