Police arrested a hit-and-run suspect on the University of Colorado Boulder's Folsom Field on Thursday night, creating an unusual scene on the Buffaloes' home football field.

According to the Bolder Police Department, officers responded to a crash just northeast of the Colorado campus, and one of the drivers fled the scene in a Toyota Tundra. That driver eventually drove the vehicle through a Folsom Field gate, and the vehicle, badly damaged, came to rest between the 30- and 40-yard line, according to photos from a CBS News Colorado news photographer.

The University of Colorado sent out an emergency alert on social media saying there was a heavy police presence at Folsom Field and to avoid the area. Police confirmed the suspect was then apprehended on the field, and there was no threat to anyone on the university campus. However, as of publication, there were no details regarding injuries suffered during either the hit-and-run or the vehicle's travels thereafter.

Colorado visits in-state rival Colorado State on Saturday before returning to Folsom Field on Sept. 21 against Baylor. According to CBS News Colorado , CU spokeswoman Nicole Mueksch said the university will make every effort to repair the damage to the field caused by the incident.
